I found this little green vine (Scindapsus pictus) growing up the side of a tree while making flower images at the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden on the Big Island of Hawaii. While pretty and colorful flowers and plants are always fun to photograph, the plain and overlooked also make great subjects, especially when it comes to textures.
The green of the vine leaves, the roughness of the moss, the smoothness of the tree bark, and the patterns made by the vine tendrils creeping up the tree all combined to grab my attention and have me consider making this capture instead of pursuing yet another pretty bloom.
Thank you Colin Purrington for the ID!
