On this particular morning we were hiking the Canyon Overlook trail which starts near the Zion-Mt Carmel tunnel entrance. It's a great hike, being relatively easy and traversing a magical wonderland of weird rock formations. There are some parts of the trail that may give pause to those with a fear of heights. Rest assured, the Park Service has put in a lot of effort to ensure the trail is safe.
This photo was taken from within a huge grotto that the trail goes through (the trail is there, to the left). I like how the image captures the different layers and levels of light. For a sense of scale, the sunlit pine at about 2'oclock of the distant archway is a fully grown ponderosa pine.
This is a must-do hike if you're visiting Zion, especially early in the morning. The view from the Canyon Overlook is magnificent, though yours truly kept WAY back from the fenced edge and remained seated to enjoy the view.
