I was hiking down-river on the San Pedro River, looking for a possible obstruction that was causing a backup on the river, when I found this beaver dam.
It was interesting how I found it. I couldn't walk along the river bank for the undergrowth was too thick. As I walked in a field alongside the river, beyond the undergrowth, I suddenly heard running water, which caught my interest for the river was completely calm up-stream.
After forcing my way through the thickets that lined the river bank, I found this beaver dam. It was quite efficient, watertight for most of its length, with a small conduit that funneled the water around one end of it. It was the rushing of water through that conduit that I had heard.
