I was at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum taking photos of Inca Doves when I heard flapping in the tree above me. I looked up and saw a parrot peering down at me, curious as to what I was up to. As I moved to different vantage points, attempting to get a better image of him, he would mimic my movements, hopping along the branches so that no matter what I did, he was immediately overhead and looking down at me with one cocked eye. So, I finally took this photo, which is what he obviously wanted for upon pressing the shutter he promptly ignored me and fell asleep. Too funny!
I believe this is a Lilac-crowned Amazon (Amazona finschi), or Lilac-crowned Parrot, which is endemic to the Pacific slopes of Mexico, though feral populations exist in suburban Southern California and the coniferous forests of the San Gabriel Mountains.
