One of the first trips we ever took was to Durango in Colorado. It was a spur-of-the-moment adventure in mid-April of 2001.
Silly me, having lived in the desert since 1972, didn’t realize that April was probably was not the best season to travel in a mountain range like the San Juans, that is, unless you like snow… lots of snow! Fortunately the roads and weather were clear, and it turned out to be a beautiful trip, driving through the snow-covered passes from Durango to Silverton to Ourey, and then back again.
I had just re-kindled my photography interest with the purchase of a digital Olympus C-3000Z. It was small, portable, and ate batteries like they were Cheetos. Also, in those days, the pixel count on digitals was was rather low, so the quality of the images was marginal, at best, but nevertheless, it was a fun camera to travel with.
