Description

A historical image of Boulder (Hoover) Dam showing the construction of a not-yet completed new bypass (Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial) bridge being built across Black Canyon on the Colorado River.

This high-contrast photograph, taken from the reservoir side of the dam, shows the low-level aquamarine waters of Lake Mead, the dam's intake towers, the curving arch-gravity sweep of the dam wall, the copper-roofed museum, numerous high-voltage towers protruding from the sheer walls of Black Canyon at gravity-defying angles, and of course, the beginnings of the new bypass bridge.
